Merlot; cabernet sauvignon; pinot noir. Chianti; old vine zinfandel; red blends. I love wine. I am best friends with red wine.

So, it seems only appropriate that while I prepare decor for my new apartment move, I focus on some wine decor.

My latest favorite method of DIY crafting has been chalkboard. Chalkboard wine bottles, chalkboard sign. Anything that I can spray some paint on and decorate with chalkboard markers, sign me up!

I merged my two favorites into one with my latest project:

I still need to cut more wine corks in half and finish the cork board border of the frame (aka I need to drink more wine… oh darn!), but you get the overall picture. And don’t you just love the quote?! Thank you Pinterest!

Chalkboard Wine Art Quote Materials:

This project is super easy to complete, and inexpensive, too! I used the following items to complete it:
– Picture frame with glass (picked up at thrift store)
– Chalkboard spray paint (leftover from previous projects)

Several corks from wine bottles, cut in half, lengthwise

I can’t wait to finish up the frame and hang this beauty in my kitchen. Because, let’s be real, is there ever a reason NOT to love the wine you’re with?! 😉
Also, on a side note to that, has anyone noticed that so many wine brands are switching to the synthetic corks now? Boo-hiss! I want my expanding cork that sometimes breaks off in my bottle! (No but really, what brands do you know of with cute, REAL cork designs? I need this project done ASAP!)

So far, I’m loving these bistro chalkboard markers by Marvy Uchida. They’re so easy to use and create art with, and when you’re done or want to change up your decor, all it takes is a quick wipe with a wet rag, and you’ve got a new, clean slate!

Chalkboard crafts, chalkboard decor, and more chalkboard stuff!

Last-Minute Memorial Day Decorations

** LIKE WHAT YOU SEE? FROM JUNE 19 to JUNE 26, GO HERE TO ENTER FOR A CHANCE TO WIN YOUR OWN 4-PIECE SET OF BISTRO CHALK MARKERS BY MARVY UCHIDA FOR CHALKBOARD PROJECTS! **

Man, this month is just flying by, isn’t it?! It seems like just yesterday it was Mother’s day, I blinked, and bam, Memorial Day weekend is just around the corner!

Today I thought I’d share a quick and easy DIY Project: DIY Last Minute Memorial Day Decorations

Memorial Day 4th of July Decorations Chalkboard Display

Seriously, y’all, this display took me about 15 minutes total, which is exactly how long I like to spend on holiday decorations in my home, haha. Okay, okay, it might take you a BIT longer if you have to take the time to chalkboard paint the bottles and an old picture frame, but still, this project shouldn’t take you more than a day, total. And just in time for Memorial Day weekend, no less!

Materials:

  • Empty, cleaned wine bottles with labels removed.
  • Old picture frame
  • Chalkboard spray paint
  • Chalkboard markers (I used Marvy Uchida Bistro Chalkboard Markers)
  • Any other red, white, and blue decorations you have lying around.

And that’s it! Seriously!

So, what are you waiting for? Grab you chalkboard spray paint, spray on 2 coats, wait to dry, then get to decorating!

The best part? When you’re done, use a wet rag, and you’ll have a clean slate for the next holiday (or leave it up for Fourth of July?)! I used Marvy Uchida Chalkboard Bistro Markers for this project. They’re SO easy to use. Shake, press, and draw as if you were using a regular marker. The best part is they clean up super easily, and stand out brightly against the chalkboard background. If you’re looking for a last-minute project to spruce up your place for Memorial Day weekend (perhaps a Memorial Day BBQ?), then these will add a little cute pizzazz in less than a day’s work!

What other decorations are you planning on displaying for Memorial Day weekend? Do you usually buy and save Memorial Day/4th of July decorations to use year after year? Or do you opt for the disposable, one-use decor for your BBQ party needs?

DFW Bloggers Meet Up Fall 2012

On Saturday, September 08th, Julie from A Beautiful Day, Taylor from Goings On in Texas, and I hosted the first ever Texas Bloggers DFW Meet Up at A Piece of Work in Fort Worth!

DFW Bloggers Meet Up – A Piece of Work

The hostesses of the night

The eventful night was filled with goodies to munch on…

Wine to be enjoyed…

… and paintings to be drawn!

I thoroughly enjoyed chatting with and getting to know my fellow DFW Blogging gals. We truly are a little blogging community. Every woman I talked to that night was so kind, gracious, funny, and downright sweet! We may be online blogging pals, but rest assured my friendships with these ladies were truly affirmed that night. It’s funny how bonds can be made through a little computer screen, isn’t it?

I had the pleasure of meeting the following ladies that evening:

Julie at A Beautiful Day

Taylor at Goings On in Texas

Nicole at Three31

April at Red Dirt Mama

Becky at The Java Mama

Crystal at Mason’s Mama

Amanda at Princess of the Panhandle

Jill at Nokoikonomia

Holli at Holli’s Hoots and Hollers

Kristen at Few of My Favorite Things

Lauren at The Crazy Life of LT

Samm at Little House in the Big D

Cynthia at Oh So Pinteresting

After a fun-filled night of blog talk, story swaps, painting, and wine, we all finally said our goodbyes and went our separate ways for the night… BUT, not before grabbing our take-home souvenir! Julie did a beautiful job decorating the keepsake boxes that held the homemade cupcakes I made for the event:

All in all, it was a fantastic time, and I can’t wait for the next one! Thank you ladies for making this past weekend one to definitely remember! 🙂

Oh, and PS, just so it’s out there as photographic proof that I DID paint something in my life, here’s me with my attempted painting from the evening’s workshop… I think I’ll stick to my art skills on cupcakes! haha 😉
