‘Tis the Season… For Getting Real

Hello my darlings.

Long time no blog seems cliche, but I can’t think of a better term to chalk my blogging absence up to. It’s been an exciting year, and now that my shoulders are sitting a little lower and my breathing has slowed, it seemed appropriate to give this site a good refresh. But what would I write about?

I graduated last December. It was a surreal moment. My boyfriend at the time was off doing who knows what in Australia, and my parents flew in when I was flying around like a chicken with its head cut off. Between working nearly full time and finishing up capstone courses, I’m surprised I had the energy and mental stability to throw on a dress and walk across that stage to receive that hard-earned piece of paper.Read more

Skoop A-Game Powder Review on A Dash of Sarah

September is one of those months that I always can’t wait to be over. Don’t get me wrong; I love Labor Day, the start of pumpkin spice lattes (let’s be honest: pumpkin anything), and the promise that fall weather is soon on its way (you hear that, Texas? Any day now… would be nice), but it also marks the start of another busy school year and too many obligations than I know how to keep straight. Well–this is the LAST year that school will be a problem, and thankfully a product I tried out helped me through the madness that is September.Read more

Pink Zebra Sprinkles – Product Review

Hi lovelies!

I’m so excited about reviewing Pink Zebra Sprinkles! This review has been a long-time coming. You see, I wanted to try out each scent before writing about them. Umm… BAD idea. Turns out these suckers burn for quite a long while. (Yeah, even the samples!)

Trying out Pink Zebra Sprinkles

So, I got in contact with Leah from Pink Zebra Sprinkles, who asked what kind of scents I liked. I told her herbal scents, and clean scents, nothing too fruity or dessert-smelling. (I already munch enough as it is, there’s no need to fill my room with cookie dough scent!) Leah hooked me up with a handful of samples, and I swear it was love at first scent! The scents included were as follows:
– Stone-Washed Denim
– Turquoise Waters
– Gentle Rain
– Amaretto Cream
– Citrus & Herbs
– Honeysuckle Hugs
– Beach Breeze
– Island Coconut

Do those sound dreamy or what?! I have to say, I think Gentle Rain was my favorite, with Stone-Washed Denim being a close second. They were ALL great smelling though, without being too strong. I don’t know about y’all, but I get headaches when they’re too overpowering. Let’s smell pretty, not forceful, know what I mean?!

Pink Zebra Sprinkles Gentle Rain Scent Pink Zebra Sprinkles Gentle Rain Scent

These samples burned, and burned, and burned, and burned! I was surprised at how long they last, until Leah gave me the low-down on how these little delights burn 30% longer than most candle. And the best part? They’re made with renewable and sustainable, Earth-friendly wax. They burn smoothly, and keep most of their bright, fun colors while doing so.

The absolute only down side that I had with these vs. Scentsy wax bars is that I didn’t have as much flexibility of changing scents as I did with wax bars, as these are sprinkles, and the samples didn’t come with the store-away carton. BUT, Pink Zebra Sprinkles allows for mixing your favorite scents together in a glass container to create a bomb-diggity smelling, personalized scented candle, so that makes up for it IMHO.

Go check out the different scents available and get in touch with Leah. She’s awesome, and so are her scents. Not to mention, how ridiculously cute are their Simmering Lights shades? I’m going to need to do some serious wax-melting upgrades soon!

Shout out to Leah for the samples! Once I’m all moved in to my new humble abode, I will be having to try out some of those new, adorable simmer light shades!

Product Review & GIVEAWAY: Marvy Uchida Bistro Chalk Markers

Hi my dears! Today, I am SO excited to reveal not only an awesome product review, but also a giveaway!

… Courtesy of Marvy Uchida!

(Disclaimer: All products in the giveaway were provided free-of-charge by Marvy Uchida. All products I used were purchased on my own behalf. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I was not paid or otherwise compensated for my review.)

I bought some chalkboard paint a while ago from Michaels Craft Store, and have been playing around, spraying it on random items like wine bottles and old frames. But one thing wasn’t going quite like I imagined: the chalk. Anytime I used regular chalk, the intensity of my drawing was not up to par, or the drawing would stick and reappear no matter how many times I wiped or washed the board/bottle to try a new design.

Then, one day, a friend turned me on to chalk markers, and I haven’t looked back ever since. I bought myself a 4-pack set of the Marvy Uchida Bistro Chalk Markers in Red, White, Blue and Black. I have used the red, white and blue ones quite a bit. I have yet to try out the black, but am saving it until I can get my hands on (or make!) some mint or white chalkboard paint for another project.

These markers go on so easily to any chalkboard canvas. The package says they can work on glass, and any other non-porous, smooth surfaces, as well, though I haven’t tried myself. I put my new chalk market kit to the test with the following three projects (click on the first 2 project images to open up a new window with their posts and instructions!):

and my latest (and possibly favorite) project:

And that’s all just free-hand, one-coat drawings using Marvy Uchida chalk markers and taking inspiration from random pins. They’re that vibrant and easy-to-use!

So far, I have absolutely no complaints with Marvy Uchida bistro chalk markers. Merlot; cabernet sauvignon; pinot noir. Chianti; old vine zinfandel; red blends. I love wine. I am best friends with red wine.

So, it seems only appropriate that while I prepare decor for my new apartment move, I focus on some wine decor.

My latest favorite method of DIY crafting has been chalkboard. Chalkboard wine bottles, chalkboard sign. Anything that I can spray some paint on and decorate with chalkboard markers, sign me up!

I merged my two favorites into one with my latest project:

I still need to cut more wine corks in half and finish the cork board border of the frame (aka I need to drink more wine… oh darn!), but you get the overall picture. And don’t you just love the quote?! Thank you Pinterest!

Chalkboard Wine Art Quote Materials:

This project is super easy to complete, and inexpensive, too! I used the following items to complete it:
– Picture frame with glass (picked up at thrift store)
– Chalkboard spray paint (leftover from previous projects)

Several corks from wine bottles, cut in half, lengthwise

I can’t wait to finish up the frame and hang this beauty in my kitchen. Because, let’s be real, is there ever a reason NOT to love the wine you’re with?! 😉
Also, on a side note to that, has anyone noticed that so many wine brands are switching to the synthetic corks now? Boo-hiss! I want my expanding cork that sometimes breaks off in my bottle! (No but really, what brands do you know of with cute, REAL cork designs? I need this project done ASAP!)

So far, I’m loving these bistro chalkboard markers by Marvy Uchida. They’re so easy to use and create art with, and when you’re done or want to change up your decor, all it takes is a quick wipe with a wet rag, and you’ve got a new, clean slate!

Chalkboard crafts, chalkboard decor, and more chalkboard stuff!

Last-Minute Memorial Day Decorations

** LIKE WHAT YOU SEE? FROM JUNE 19 to JUNE 26, GO HERE TO ENTER FOR A CHANCE TO WIN YOUR OWN 4-PIECE SET OF BISTRO CHALK MARKERS BY MARVY UCHIDA FOR CHALKBOARD PROJECTS! **

Man, this month is just flying by, isn’t it?! It seems like just yesterday it was Mother’s day, I blinked, and bam, Memorial Day weekend is just around the corner!

Today I thought I’d share a quick and easy DIY Project: DIY Last Minute Memorial Day Decorations

Memorial Day 4th of July Decorations Chalkboard Display

Seriously, y’all, this display took me about 15 minutes total, which is exactly how long I like to spend on holiday decorations in my home, haha. Okay, okay, it might take you a BIT longer if you have to take the time to chalkboard paint the bottles and an old picture frame, but still, this project shouldn’t take you more than a day, total. And just in time for Memorial Day weekend, no less!

Materials:

  • Empty, cleaned wine bottles with labels removed.
  • Old picture frame
  • Chalkboard spray paint
  • Chalkboard markers (I used Marvy Uchida Bistro Chalkboard Markers)
  • Any other red, white, and blue decorations you have lying around.

And that’s it! Seriously!

So, what are you waiting for? Grab you chalkboard spray paint, spray on 2 coats, wait to dry, then get to decorating!

Chalkboard Spray Paint Project

The best part? When you’re done, use a wet rag, and you’ll have a clean slate for the next holiday (or leave it up for Fourth of July?)! I used Marvy Uchida Chalkboard Bistro Markers for this project. They’re SO easy to use. Shake, press, and draw as if you were using a regular marker. The best part is they clean up super easily, and stand out brightly against the chalkboard background. If you’re looking for a last-minute project to spruce up your place for Memorial Day weekend (perhaps a Memorial Day BBQ?), then these will add a little cute pizzazz in less than a day’s work!

What other decorations are you planning on displaying for Memorial Day weekend? Do you usually buy and save Memorial Day/4th of July decorations to use year after year? Or do you opt for the disposable, one-use decor for your BBQ party needs?

DIY Pillow Cover in Five Easy Steps

I’m back with another Drab to Fab for y’all:

DIY hand-sewn pillow cover!

This is one of the Pinterest project attempts completed for the 30-before-30 challenge: 30 completed Pinterest projects. View the rest here.

I had seen so many pillow case tutorials online, and sewing-machine tutorials for decorative pillow covers. But as ironic as it is, this avid DIY-er does not own a sewing machine (yet)! Because of this, the easier the template, and the fewer stitches needed, the better. And thus, though I pulled some tips and tricks from other Pinterest pins of pillow covers, I’m sharing a tutorial for those of y’all who also stick to the traditional way of sewing–by hand!
